Photo: Simon*, in red, with his family members after reunification.
Simon*, 13, lived with his family in Khartoum, Sudan before the fighting broke out. He was scared of the sound of guns and the armed men destroying homes in his neighbourhood. In fear, he escaped with many people fleeing the conflict, but was separated from his parents. He continued to travel with the others and finally arrived at a border point between Sudan and South Sudan, where he was referred to Save the Children’s family reunification program. Save the Children worked with partners to trace Simon’s relatives in South Sudan and travelled with him to reunite him with his family after more than three months of travelling on his own.
