How Greeting Cards Work
Each time you add a gift to your online shopping cart, you will have the option to select a FREE greeting card for your friend or family member.

There are three types of cards: E-Cards, Mailed Cards and Downloadable PDF Cards (Print-your-own Cards). You can also select no card. Below are details for each of the three types.

You can send one card each time you add a gift to your shopping cart, even if you select a quantity of more than one for that gift item. If you would like a card for each gift, add them to your cart individually by entering a quantity of ‘1’. This way you can enter the email or mailing address for one honouree at a time for each gift, and then repeat (click ‘Shop Some More’).

  1. E-Cards - You will enter the email address for your gift honouree, who will instantly* be sent an eCard with your personal message once you complete your online order. (If you would like your gift honouree to receive your eCard at a later date, choose a Downloadable PDF card instead, which you can save and then email to your honouree on the date you choose. Alternatively, send the eCard to your own email address now, then forward when you're ready.)

You can choose from several eCard designs, including Joy, Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, Happy Hanukkah, Thank You, Happy Birthday and In Memoriam. In addition to your personal message, eCards include the following message: “In your honour, a special donation has been made through Save the Children’s Gifts of Joy catalogue! May you experience true joy in this heartfelt gift that’s creating change in the lives of children worldwide.” Your eCard will include the name of the item you purchased for your honouree. You will be able to preview your card before finalizing.

*Please note, depending on your or your honouree's email provider, eCards may go to a Junk or Spam folder.

  2. Mailed Cards are sent to the mailing address you provide for your gift honouree. If you would like to personally deliver the card to your honouree instead, enter your own mailing address and we’ll mail the cards to you. Orders must be received by December 7 to guarantee delivery of mailed cards by December 25.

Card orders are processed in Toronto from Monday to Friday, and cards are mailed from Toronto by Canada Post. The time it takes to receive cards depends on Canada Post’s delivery schedule, and may be impacted by a high volume of mail during the holiday season or by COVID-19. Please allow 3 weeks for delivery of mailed cards.

You can choose from two message options for the front of mailed cards: Joy or Merry Christmas. The inside of the mailed card features the beautiful photo of the item you purchased with a description explaining why the honouree’s gift is so special. The inside also includes this message: “May you experience true joy in this heartfelt gift that’s creating change in the lives of children worldwide.”

  3. Downloadable PDF Cards (Print-your-own Cards) allow you to create a card that you can download, save and print or email to your gift honouree. Links to downloadable PDFs will be included in the email you receive after completing your purchase. (This email will also have your tax receipt.)

You can choose from several Downloadable PDF Card designs, including Joy, Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, Happy Hanukkah, Thank You, Happy Birthday and In Memoriam.

A. Everything you see in our catalogue is an actual product or service Save the Children provides to children and families around the world with the help of donors like you. The gifts shown throughout our catalogue are representative of categories, such as livestock, education or health, but may change due to environmental, programmatic or economic considerations. Your donations will be used to provide assistance where it is needed most and will provide tangible solutions to help entire communities overcome poverty and achieve self-reliance.

A. When you give Gifts of Joy, you bring hope, practical help and lasting change to children and families living in poverty and crisis around the world and in Canada. Your gifts help those facing famine, climate change, conflict, COVID-19 or other crises with immediate, enduring and tangible solutions. Your gift can help to save their lives, improve their livelihoods and transform their futures. Specifically:

Animals & Livelihoods gifts provide food, warmth, and an opportunity for an income
Education gifts help girls and boys access and enjoy a safe education, which can help them build a better future.
Health gifts help care for orphans, and provide access to critical healthcare, preventative medicines, clean water and emergency provisions.
In Crisis gifts help the many refugees and other children in crisis worldwide with essentials for their survival, protection and education.
Gifts for Indigenous Children Here at Home help Indigenous children to cope with challenges and improve their mental wellbeing.

A. Due to the pandemic, day-to-day challenges have multiplied for children and their families who are already hungry, sick, out-of-school and vulnerable. When you purchase Gifts of Joy, or donate to 'Where Needed Most', you are supporting Save the Children's response to the pandemic. Some examples of our response includes enabling remote learning, distributing food and essentials to families who have lost employment, providing face masks and hygiene to children, families and health workers, constructing safe isolation treatment centres, and supporting children and teens with mental health and protection programs. The COVID Family Care Kit Gift of Joy helps children and families hit hardest by the pandemic.

A. Save the Children is proud to be the leading independent organization for children's rights. With over 100 years of experience and millions of children benefitting from our programs each year, Save the Children has built a name that children, communities and supporters can trust. It is because of our breakthroughs for children that Save the Children is ranked highly among non-profit organizations. And 83.9% of donations are used to develop and deliver our programs (3-year average). Save the Children works in Canada and over 100 countries around the world to bring immediate and lasting change to children's lives through the realization of their rights. We focus on the issues of emergency relief, health and nutrition, education, gender equality, and protection.

A. With each animal gift, we provide training for their care, veterinary support and vaccinations. We also ensure the animals have access to enough food and water. We support families to care for their animals so they can earn an income from their growing herds for the long-term.

A. Save the Children takes a holistic approach to our livelihood programs to provide a range of diversified and sustainable items that cater to the different needs of families and communities.

Livestock use in our livelihoods programs is part of an overall approach, which includes other items such as climate-resilient and nutrition-focused crops and seeds, fruit trees, fertilizer, honey bees, farming tools and wells.

Our approach is part of an integrated, diversified solution designed to assist families in making a living. The objective is always long-term sustainability and takes into account the environment while engaging with local community leaders. Livestock is often part of the social and cultural traditions for many families.

When you purchase livestock, you are also providing families with training on how to properly care for them as well as veterinarian support. We also provide animal feed as part of our programs.

Our animal gifts can provide essentials that keep families warm and nourished. Livestock provides a whole list of life-changing materials such as eggs, wool, feathers, fertilizer, milk and cheese. As their livestock numbers grow, families can sell or trade animals to pay for essentials like healthcare and education. By giving livestock, you also help improve livelihoods by providing training in how to care for them. We also offer Donkeys to assist with heavy work, Bees for income opportunities, Fruit Trees, Seeds and Tools. You are providing income and independence to people who need it most.
